Won't Somebody Pleas think of the Children

Ok It's been a long time since my last entry and i wouldn't expect another any time soon.

Very few of you probably know this but when i was young, around grade 1 if i remember correctly, I spent some time running back and forth to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. The visits accumulating in a nasty bit of surgery. It was not a pleasant experience except for one thing, they had a closet full of Nintendo's or maybe atari's it was a long time ago. Anyway the Hospital is designed to make long stays that can be scarry for children a little more bearable by providing entertainment for children and for siblings that may be visiting/staying for support. To this day i remember the star wars toys and free pin ball machine i could play with when i was allowed to rome.

Well Penny Arcade has run a fund raiser called child's Play for the last 3 years where geeks and gamers from all over the world can can buy/donate toys to sick children's hospitals around the world. The toys are used in a number of ways from Christmas gifts for children stuck in the hospital over the holidays to new PS2 games for the game room to books parents can read to their children while stuck in bed. Having been in this situation i can't stress enough how important this is. These hospitals get donations all the time but most of it goes to equipment or medicine.

If you have a bit of extra cash this holiday season think about giving it to some sick kids. I know I am going to donate something, I haven't decided what yet but they made it really easy. You click on a hospital and it opens a Amazon.com wish list. Click on an Item and your done.

Anyway that's all I have to say right now.

  • That's a very cool idea! I'll for sure do that for X-mas. I usually do the 'tree angel' thing too, where families in need place a note on a designated community X-mas tree, requesting a particular toy for their child. If you choose to, you can take one of the notes, buy the requested toy and return it to the tree.

  • Yeah, even if it's just a sentence or two, it keeps the visitors coming back. Plus, that way we know you're not dead. I like knowing you're not dead. :)
