Music, Music, Music
So while browsing eBay for scientific equipment at work I decided to check out the prices on hard drive MP3 player (see previus poast on ipods). What did I see but a Creative Nomad Xtra 40Gb player up for $150 US with no bids on it and 5 min to go. I bid on it and as expected some peaople tried to outbid me at the last sec. After a last min counter bid by me i managed to grab it for about $160 US. Now that is awesome because it is $250 US new and the equivilant iPod is over $400. They sent it the cheepest possible way so it only cost $15 S&H which is cool but it took 2 weeks to get here.
When it arrived i realized why it was so cheep. I should have read the poast a bit better cause it turns out the headphone jack was broken, there was no sound from the left. I checked on the web and it turns out this is a commen problem, it's a fault with the design. I was pissed for a bit but if it was such a commen problem i assumed there must be a fix for it. After all iPod batteries where supposed to be irreplacible but people found ways to do it. With a little searching i found The Bishops Nomad Fix. The Problem is the headphone jack is attached using surface mounted tabs which can break under the stress of use. You simply have to solder a wire from the board connection to the headphone jack. After 20 very tense min i have a perfectly good working MP3 player.
Im not sure how i am going to fill up 40gb of music but you can use it as a portable HD aswell so it will be usefull for transfering files aswell. i have just started to rip all my CD's to MP3 format. It is going to take a while as i have a lot of CD's but it will be nice to have all my music with me all the time.
I picked of a CD my Stabbing Westward, a band i discovered while listing to MMO Radio. There a pretty cool band, very heavy. I got "The esential Stabbing Westward", it's a greatest hits CD. Stuff from 3 of there albums plus 2 songs used on movie soundtracks. i can definatly recomend this album if you like heavier music. Check out "What am i supposed to do?", "Shame" or "Save Yourself" if you want to check out there music.
Well Back to Ripping CD's

Shawn, First time reading your blog!
I have a Creative Zen Xtra 40 Gb and so far it has more or less behaved itself except for some hardrive crashing now and then. I like it a lot, and also got mine on ebay for a bargain price. I love that it isn't an ipod!
